The All Star Game in Ottawa Ontario has come to an end with team Chara beating team Alfredsson 12-9. This year there was no Sidney Crosby and no Alex Ovechkin. But that didn’t mean that the weekend was a disaster. At the Skills Competition there was 1 record broken thanks to Zdeno Chara. Here is a list of all of the event winners.
Fastest Skater Carl Hagelin, New York Rangers (13.218 seconds)
Breakaway Challenge – Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks (47% of fan votes)
Accuracy Shooting – Jamie Benn, Dallas Stars (10.204 seconds)
Relay Challenge – Team Alfredsson (2:08)
Hardest Shot – Zdeno Chara, Boston Bruins (108.8) – NHL record
Elimination Shootout – Steven Stamkos, Tampa Bay Lightning
The Game was great success, CBC did a great job by putting a mic on players like Carey Price, Joffery Lupul and the best funniest player Scott Hartnell. Hartnell, who is the jokester of the roster, created a fundraiser called Hartnell Down. Every time Hartnell would fall during the game he would donate $1000 to charity. He fell four times so he gave $4000 to a charity. Alfredsson, the fan-favourite, picked up 3 points to top off a great weekend. The only thing that would have made it better? The All Star MVP. But to be fair and to not suck up to the Ottawa fans, who only wanted a Senator to win, the NHL made the right move by giving the MVP award to Rangers forward Marian Gaborik who had 3 goals and 1 assist. The 2013 All Star Game is set to be held in Columbus. Although Columbus may not have the same excitement level due to the lack of fans, the All Star Game is sure to bring a great weekend of hockey.
